Description
Warm, bold and unapologetically colourful, Ember is a genuine handwoven Madras Kattam cotton in glowing shades of orange, rust, red and deep burgundy.
The large-scale check has a wonderfully simple graphic quality, but there’s much more happening when you look closely. The different coloured threads cross during weaving to create subtle changes in tone throughout the cloth, with flashes of orange appearing through the deeper red and burgundy areas.
Handwoven in small villages outside Chennai in Tamil Nadu, this is genuine Madras fabric rather than a printed Madras-style check. The pattern is woven directly into the cloth using coloured warp and weft threads.
Its handmade construction also means you can expect a little individuality. Slight variations in the weave, yarn and colour are a natural part of handwoven fabric and give each length its own character.
The warm colour palette would work beautifully for dresses, skirts, shirts, tops and relaxed trousers. The larger check could also be used very effectively for pattern matching, contrasting pockets or panels – or deliberately mismatched if you prefer your sewing a little less orderly!
Handwoven in India and sourced by Bhumi & Pari with its handmade origin verified.
